What to feed your Cat or Kitten
At New Destiny we have always believed in feeding the highest quality
foods. I have learned over the years not to trust the health of my cats
to only one food manufacture this is why I recommend several brands of
food. I only recommend foods that have "human quality"
"human grade" ingredients processed in the highest quality
facilities. "If it's not good enough for me to eat it's not good
enough for my cats to eat."
For kibble (dry food) I feed a
combination of "Eagle Pack Holistic Select" which is
made of Free-Range Certified Organically-Grown Chicken. This formula has
many Organic ingredients as well as herbs like Rosemary & Kelp, as well as
having Sun-Cured alfalfa, peas, carrots, blueberries, apples, sweet potatoes and
cranberry just to mention a few. All from the highest quality, naturally
wholesome holistic ingredients, "Eagle Pack" foods also have
outstanding Sequestered Trace Minerals, Pro & Prebiotics, Digestive
Enzymes, Pharmaceutical Grade Vitamins, Omega 6:3 and, Yucca Extract.
"Eagle Pack" also makes a wonderful Kitten, Adult Cat, Hairball and
Less Active formula.
The other kibble I use along with Eagle is "
Nature's Variety". With this foods emphasis is put on fresh meat as the
first & prominent ingredient, the grains present in these diets are only
whole grains; never inferior grain fractions. "Nature's Variety" is
the only food on the market I have found that has a process where they enrobe
the outer surface of the finished product with probiotics, enzymes, nutritious
oils, fats and certain vitamins and minerals. This is all done with USDA
inspected "Human Grade" ingredients.
I also like to add in a food made by Precise Pet ,
which is called Fish Flavor. This wonderful formula is not fish protein based food
but is a chicken protein source. Where it gets it's name and very palatable flavor is from the extra fish oils
added ... a wonderful source of Omega fatty acids which are great for the skin and coat.
"RAW Food" A
"Raw" diet is extremely important to all cats. Cats are
carnivores; they must have fresh "Raw" meat to meet their special
needs. Many of these essential "Life" sustaining elements can only be
derived from "Raw" foods. There are many sources of "Raw"
diets available on the market but I will only feed a "Raw" food that
is made in a USDA facility from top quality "Human Grade"
meats. This I have found in two outstanding sources.
First "Natures Variety",
which offers an excellent raw formula that my cats and kittens dive into.
Their formulas are 95% meat (a combination of muscle meat, organ
meat, and raw crushed bone). The remaining 5% of the diet is made of fruits,
vegetables, seed sprouts, chelated trace minerals, honey, eggs, apple cider
vinegar, and cold pressed oils. With this "Raw" diet the cats get all
the benefits of Minerals that are better assimilated, vitamins & amino
acids are more bio-available, natural digestive enzymes are still present
and the amino acids such as taurine are not destroyed and are available to the
cat in their natural form which makes them more bio-available to the
body.
The second and equally impressive raw diet I use is the "
Raw Advantage" an organic raw diet and raw supplement food. They offer a wide range of protein sources that my cats love.
My babies prefer the "Only Turkey", "Duck & Yam" and watch out if I put a few chopped "Organic Chicken Necks" out. The "Raw Advantage" is made
of a combination of formulas with all "Organic" ingredients like muscle meat, organ meat, raw crushed bone, as well as in the "dinners" organic veggies & herbs
(barley, carrots, zucchini, kale, wheat grass, flax, burdock root, slippery elm and rosehips just to mention a few). All are a source of natural vitamins and minerals,
which are more bio-available to the body.
I highly recommend reading a book written by Steve Brown & Beth Taylor called "See Spot Live Longer".
It is an eye opening look at the pet food industry, the digestive systems of dogs and cats, as well as what they were made to eat and how they should be fed.
Please take a look at the additional articles and links on feeding your cat
as the “Carnivore” it is. I hope the
information contained on my site is as inspiring to you as it was to me and
will open up a new way of offering true nutrition to your cats & kittens.
