                   A Little History About Me

<-This me at about 4 years old.

I loved kitties even then. Actually I loved ALL animals. This I learned from my father. I still remember looking out of my bedroom window on the cold mornings of winter ... watching him feed our German Shepard and her puppies a mixture of freshly cooked oatmeal and dry dog food. He took very good care of our pets and instilled in me a deep love & respect for animals.

Through the years, I have had all kinds of animals. In High School I was a member of the F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America). Each school year we had a project animal for our annual show & auction. My main project was my Arabian horse which I showed in area competitions ... mainly in "western pleasure" classes. However, I did other small projects, too. One year I raised chickens. In my senior year I raised 2 hogs. My chickens didn't do well but my hogs placed 4th & 3rd. What an experience!

This is me pictured with a sweet little barn kitten ->

After a few years of not showing livestock ... I knew that I wanted to show animals ... but didn't know what kind. I lived in an apartment on the property that I worked at, so I had limited space. This is when I started thinking about showing cats. I knew I could start with a few cats ... maybe 3 or 4. That's when it all started!

I aquired my first purebred cat in May of 1989. My first cat show was not until 1990 at the Silver Rebels Cat Club show. I am secretary of the Brazos Valley Cat Club. I am also a member of several other local cat clubs including The Houston Cat Club, Stars & Stripes Tabby & Torties Club, Silver Rebels Cat Club, & The Atlantic Himalayan Club. I'm also a member of CFA's Persian Breed Council - Himalayan Division.

Shay was my first Regional Winner and we had a great time showing. Shay placed as 4th Best Kitten in the Gulf Shore Region after which she went on to achieve the title of Grand Champion. Then she was spayed and again was shown to the title of Grand Primer. Many wonder why she was spayed and many wonder about her name. The answer is Shay was the work of 3 years of my breeding program in which a stud I had used to lock in type, was discovered to also be passing on a Liver defect to most of his offspring. Shay is a grand-daughter to this cat. Blood work on her as a kitten indicated she also carried this defected gene. Shay's father, CH NewDestiny For Maximum Effect, was also affected by the liver problem, as were several of my breeding cats. Because of this discovery I had to eliminate 3 years of hard work and remove all cats from this line from my breeding program. I also know that the best kitten I had ever produced would eventually succumb to this defect and it simply broke my heart… Hence her name NewDestiny’s Shattered Dreams….

Reme was the first Chocolate Point I ever produced and my first Chocolate Point Grand Champion. He was the 17th Chocolate point to ever Grand in CFA. He was also C.F.A. National Best of Color ... the year he was shown. Reme has become a very important cat in my breeding program. He is the sire of GC,RW NewDestiny’s Something In The Stars.

Star is an outstanding example of the Himalayan and the icing on the cake is that she’s a Chocolate Point. Star has the distinct honor of breaking a 20-year record by becoming CFA’s Highest Scoring Chocolate Point Himalayan with 4430.50 points! She is also CFA's National Best Chocolate Point Himalayan-Persian (2002-2004) as well as being 11th Best Cat in the Gulf Shore Region. Added to this are additional honors of being chosen as Best Cat In Show along with being a multiple Best Cat Winner. Star is the result of 15 years of dedication, perseverance, hard work, sacrifices and tears.

Breeding cats is a very serious responsibility and should not be entered into lightly. My number #1 recommendation to anyone entertaining the idea of breeding is to start with a Premiership cat. You need to look at this cat as your “College” education. In college you spend money on tuition, books, labs and such to become “educated” and earn a degree, which leads to a successful career. With this education you will know about the field you are going into, the do’s and don’ts, it will get you further then someone coming into the field without an education. Your “college education” will open doors for you.

With a Premiership cat you will accomplish these same things within the cat fancy. You will learn how to groom & present a cat properly in the show ring, you will meet people and create relationships that will lead to your ability to acquire better breeding and show quality stock for your program. Showing a Premiership cat first will open many doors for you and show other that you are a serious person willing to get your education first… This first step has been very successful for many people in the cat fancy…..
